Junior ISA - FAQ’s

Here are our most commonly asked questions regarding the Junior ISA.

My child has a CTF (Child Trust Fund), can I still apply for a Junior ISA?
No we’re afraid not. Only children who missed out on the CTF will be eligible for the Junior ISA.
This includes any child born on or after the 3rd Jan 2011 or any child under the age of 18 yrs old who was born before Sept 2002

What will happen to the Junior ISA when my child reaches 18yrs of age?
The funds inside a Junior ISA are locked away and can only be accessed by the child when they reach adulthood (18 years old). Once the child reaches this age the account simply switches to a regular ISA.

Will you be offering the Junior ISA and if so can I apply now?
Please note that we do not actually provide a Junior ISA. Our website is for information purposes only and on our application page we do provide links to many of the UK’s leading Junior ISA providers with whom you can apply with.

Are there different types of junior ISA’s?
Yes there are two types of Junior ISA

  • Cash Junior ISA - This works pretty much like a regular savings account but the earning interest will be tax free.
  • Stocks and Shares Junior ISA (Investment ISA) - This is more of an investment based account which holds stock and shares and other investments.

  • Can my child have more than one Junior ISA Account?
Each child who is eligible for the Children’s ISA will be permitted to hold both a Cash and an Investment Junior ISA which do not have to be with the same providers.
For example: Your child could hold a Stocks & Shares Junior ISA with one provider and a Cash Junior ISA with your bank or building society.

Are Grandparents permitted to contribute to a Junior ISA?
Absolutely yes. In fact, any family member or even friend can pay into a child’s ISA account as long as the combined total annual investment does not exceed £3600.
